I interpreted it as a commentary on the nature of the music industry. Brendon being portrayed as a puppet throughout the video suggests that he feels used by the higher-ups in the industry as nothing but a tool to make money. The end of the video was the most telling part for me. Brendon finishes his song and takes a bow, only to come back up as the puppet again and be tossed into a pile of other puppets by a music producer stereotype.
